Before you enter any codes, wipe out the old codes. Yes, the builder probably entered a generic code so they could get in and their subcontractors could get in. Many of our neighbors had the same code when we all moved in.
Our builder was nice enough to tell me of this 'builder code' and he advised us to clear all entries before adding our own. You do not need to actually know the builder code, just wipe out all entries. Your instructions will show you how to get rid of all the codes.
