That definitely can and does happen. After the second time a frog in the toilet totally freaked out SWMBO, I fixed the issue with a piece of stainless steel screen and a hose clamp on the top of the vent stack on the roof. Then, for additional peace of mind, I did the same to every other vent stack. Problem solved.
