I had pretty much the same problem. The xfinity router defaults to the same name for both the 5.0 and the 2.4 network name. Some of my devices were trying to connect to the 5.0 band even though they only can work on the 2.4 band. I went into the xfinity app and changed the 2.4 network to a different name and then I could connect the devices to the correct band.
