Changes in Earth's rotation directly correlates to changes in Earth's zonal wind anomaly (or jet stream patterns). The zonal wind anomaly is correlated to Earth's long-term meridional temperature transport, which determines periods of global warming and cooling. Since we're in a period of global warming, Earth's rotation has been generally slowing for the past 40 years. Hear more at the Weather Club.
