Let's be more specific… The mine your referring to is the Thacker pass mine. That sulfur will be turned molton on site to make sulfuric acid. The sulfur is a waste byproduct, and comes from… Wait for it....
OIL REFINERIES!!!! Burning the sulfur to produce sulfuric acid is an exothermic reaction, allowing the plant to generate most of its own electricity.
So the mine recycles waste byproducts created by the oil industry and does not require any external energy.
