Then I’ll guess say battery especially if cart was dead? If you raised the seat should seen something? A Lady about 5 years ago was driving old electric cart and the batteries exploded knocking her out of seat, cart hit curb and turned over.
you’re gas cart only has one battery.
Second guess say secondary clutch? I had similar experience except the cart just slowed down and labored. I was close enough to home and limping it in. Found the secondary clutch was hotter than firecracker. And came apart. But even if secondary clutch came apart the primary clutch would release the transaxle from the engine. Which means the engine would idle but not go anywhere?

Bingo on the secondary clutch. Same for us, but it had been acting up for a while. TV Golf Carts said it was the battery. Wrong. Called Willie’s who diagnosed and repaired it.
