I saw
Some Kind of Heaven and didn't really take it as "a misguided hatchet job". What I saw was a sad but pretty accurate take on the problems of the elderly in America when it comes to mental health, poverty and becoming widowed. The documentary was shot here, but it could have been shot down the road at the Del Webb community or up the road at On Top of the World or basically any other retirement community in the country. They didn't say that the poor folks portrayed in those scenarios were the typical experience of folks who choose to retire to such communities.
That said, the nearly silent scenes of practice sessions by precision golf cart drivers and synchronize swimmers and such (which also could have been shot anywhere) were creepy as all get-out. They didn't intend to be a "balanced" take on retirement living any more than the ads for The Villages, Del Webb, OTOTW, etc. If you really want "hatchet jobs", check out YouTube for the videos about what supposedly
really goes on with those sex-crazed seniors living here! After six years of happily living here with my wife, I'm
still looking for those folks! What a laugh!
