I have been told recently that the policy is the physical ID is the only acceptable ID. Yes, they can see the picture or read the number and it may even be clear enough for the scanner. But still, the physical ID is currently the only acceptable ID.
- At least two years ago there were announcements that digital IDs would be available on the Villages app soon. I gave up holding my breath some time ago.
- Yes, someone who has given up their ID in order to rent their house could still have a picture and may attempt to use it. However, there is no reason at all their online record could not be flagged such that any attempt to use that ID would return a message that it was not currently valid.
- The technology exists to work around this problem and either provide digital IDs or allow pictures to be accepted. It's a shame that a solution has not yet been implemented.

Why do people insist on making claims without looking them up first, do they really think no one will check? Proof by emphatic assertion rarely works.
Confirmation bias is real; I can find any number of articles that say so.
