I don't understand how wearing a mask could mess up a high school student mentally since that was likely the RULE for the WHOLE school. Early in the Pandemic I would wear a mask to go food shopping and other shopping. Most over 60 people were wearing masks so I did NOT feel out of place in any way. Most people younger than 40 did NOT wear masks and that was OK also because Covid was only minimally affecting that younger group. High school is full of lots of peer pressure and wildly fluctuating endorphins. Those factors would seem to overpower a trivial thing like wearing a mask especially when they were required for a period in schools. The main objective of a school is to provide a safe place to learn. AT that time masks were needed for safety.
