Lets start with the obvious. The battery is five years old, do you have (or your neighbor has) another battery to try in the mower?
Most of the cordless power tools* charge lithium battteries to 100% and run them down to 10% and do not cool the batteries while charging. This is horible to battery life expectrancy. At five years you are probably at the end of battery life. Especially if you store the battery in your hot garage (horrible idea).
*Makita batteries use a fan to cool batteries while charging
