I've done more than my share of international travel, having been in 34 different countries. In the last 15 years, I have always been able to get local currency in-country before I left the airport terminal. Usually, I simply use a local ATM. If not available, I'll use a Currency Exchange booth. Both charge a fee for it, but every source will. The Exchange booths usually have an obnoxious rate, which is why I prefer the ATM.
These days, I don't get very much cash. About $200 is more than sufficient. I pay for everything with a credit card anyway. (Again, taking a hit on the exchange rate, but that'll happen.)
