1. Braveheart. I recall reading that Gibson brings a myth, not historical fact, to life in this movie. And that is certainly true. Any resemblance to historical fact seems almost coincidental. But the pageantry is out of this world!

2. The Patriot. Same reasons as above. His character was allegedly loosely based on the real Swamp Fox Francis Marion. I’d say VERY loosely.

3. We Were Soldiers. Critics actually praised this movie for it’s historical accuracy, which for a Gibson movie is unheard-of. Some of the scenes at home and on the base were a bit saccharine.
