Many say it's all "snowbirds", to me that's nonsense. Eighteen years ago when we built our home here, you would not have even thought about going over 35 down Buena Vista or any other main street...there were police hidden behind every tree and bush, hidden by the gates to the polo grounds, behind bushes down by the "then new" Lake Sumter area, and same on Morris. Large signs also proclaimed "GOLF CART community, slow down", and so on. What's changed ? No local police force as in many towns and cities our residents came from, so, we must depend on the local sheriff's office employees who, by the looks of the crime, drugs, and even killings in this and the surrounding communities seems to be more than any sheriff and deputies can handle. Probably, the speeding, and YES, it is absolutely unbelievable (we call it the Buena Vista 500 raceway, especially the YARD workers and their tandem trailers on big trucks) on the streets in one little development like The villages, pales compared to what the deputies have to face everyday in this area... just read the daily crime report ! (hint: you will not find it in the D.Sun )
