You don't. But, I would suggest that you buy a pressure gauge from Amazon for about 10 dollars. You can screw it on to any outside hose bib and verify the water pressure. Mine stays at about 60 psi. If your pressure is too high, you may have a problem. Also, if you notice any evidence of water in the overflow drain pan near the relief valve discharge, you may be experiencing excessive pressure that occasionally pops open the relief valve. You can also tap the bottom and top parts of the expansion tank with a screw driver. The top part should have a hollow sound that indicates air in the tank, which is a good thing. If the sound is dull, you probably need a new expansion tank.
