I've had various sheriff/police vehicles pass me while I was exceeding the speed limit - I didn't take that to mean it was legal, only that it wasn't my day to be stopped.
The Florida Statutes say that crossing 466A in a golf cart is not legal unless specifically authorized. The posted signage says crossing is not authorized. The local authorities cannot seem to agree on a position - I've seen or heard contradicting statements from County Commissioners, Wildwood Police, and Sumter County Sheriffs. You got away with it yet there is a report in this thread of others being turned around.
My advice (which I follow myself) is to not try it unless you are carrying something in writing on Wildwood or Sumter County letterhead saying it is legal.
