There are no simple solutions. As a consumer, all insurance companies are great at taking your money. It is wise to research comparative ratings for payouts.

We scream our homes are worth so much more than we paid for them. That is only part f the story. Repairs and replacement cost have also gone up. You can choose to pay less by increasing the policy deductible. You self insure up to whatever the deductible is.

Not shop? I do not claim to be an insurance expert. My mother used to work in a small i insurance brokerage. Some think you stay with the company and build loyalty to you. That is simply not so. The best rates are offered to new customers. They know they need new customers to replace old ones and they know new customers are shopping for value.

Claims? Years ago we had a neighbor, a retired cop, who did insurance investigations. It was amusing to hear what people have pulled and gotten caught doing. Like most things, I now wonder how many just had their claims denied and how many had criminal charges filed.

Far as insurance most things including auto insurance you can choose to self insure. You are paying a company a fee to share or cover all of your risk. In the villages we had tornadoes roughly 12 years ago. We were not here and our house was not even built Imagine the losses
to home owners and to insurance companies. Imagine trying to find quality repairs.
