More than 180 days a year I trust some waitress with my credit card. Over 25 years now and have had my number stolen twice. With all the breaches happening at the time, it is far more likely that the card info was stolen from a large company rather than a small restaurant.
Plus, only a very small percentage of restaurants take Apple Pay since that would require tap-to-pay at the table or paying over the internet.
