The opener you have should have a learn button, correct?
1st thing any new homeowner should do (new home or especially a used home) is to clear the codes stored in your opener. Right now people who have your remotes and who have setup their cars homelink devices can open your garage door, not good. Same thing for a new house, you don’t know if any of the contractors copied your remote codes so they can open your garage door.
Back to your current issue. If your garage door has a learn button,. You don’t need the original remote. You might not need any remote. Do your current cars have homelink setup from your last house? If so, press the learn button on the garage door opener and then hold down the homelink button in your car until the garage door opener flashes its light, then stop pressing the homelink button in the car. Now press the homelink button in your car and it should operate the door.
If no homelink setup, I can sell you a remote that you can use to program your garage door opener and your homelink button in your car.
