I would have to say what you are describing is an extremely rare instance. As far as avoiding traffic… Every major street has a golf cart path on the side so the cars won't get you. You are the first person I've ever heard that looked for alternative courses in pathways to avoid a gate.
Those little red buttons are user-friendly.
