I'm from Connecticut, and didn't even know that solar tubes existed until I moved to The Villages. I also couldn't imagine why anyone up north would want an acrylic window in their roof. You get a good 2 feet of snow and an ice dam up there, and that window would be down on the floor of your living room, along with a few feet of snow sliding through the hole in your roof.

Not to mention that heat rises, and in the winter, the LAST thing you'd want is a 2-foot-circumference hole in your roof covered with plastic and no insulation.
