I went with all hybrids this past winter and have not regretted it. My set (3-9 plus pitching wedge) are "Majek" Senior Men's Clubs, $329 (Amazon) for the set. At that price undoubtedly not marketed to the ultra-serious golfer but with my age and level of play I doubt my game would improve if I had spent more. I like them. It does take awhile to get used to swinging them (you will get worse before you get better). But as I've gotten acclimated to them my accuracy has improved (modestly) and distance pretty significantly.
