After reading some of the comments, maybe you could find a contrasting or complementary tile and then do a border around the new counters. This would involve cutting existing tiles and fitting the new ties, thin set and grout.

A border around or on just one side of the new island has been the backup plan. The current tiles are laid on a diagonal. I am trying to avoid the mess of cutting and taking up tiles in order to make the border work.
