I have a feeling you need to step outside of your prejudices and examine what is really going on in the deconstruction of our once great and free nation and when and If you do finally come to terms with it you will, hopefully, see the honesty and wisdom of a free American like Glenn Beck. Since Glenn Beck can't really be meaningfully debunked because realistically how do you debunk the truth, his opponents are reduced to attacking him personally; straight from the "liberal socialist handbook".
Ummm.. Two words. General Motors.

While I didn't believe ALL of the screaming about the "ripple effect" of GM going out of business, the fact is that there would be 6 figures worth of people unemployed in an instant and nobody-knows-how-many more rippling from it. This was also true of (although in a lesser degree) Chrysler - though I don't know if they'll make it to their predicted "turnaround time" when they start putting better product out on the street.

And as far as "government jobs" go, well, there's plenty to argue there - especially since it was government jobs created in a Republican administration that led to the best paying contract I ever had.. But locally there's also the story of how the stimulus package is allowing a contractor up here to hire more people to finish a big road project (connecting the Everett Turnpike, US-3, with the Manchest-Boston Regional Airport) TWO YEARS EARLY. Do you consider those "government jobs"?

Yes, we all know that recovery.gov has become the butt of a lot of jokes because of people filing their paperwork poorly (not reporting the correct or even an EXISTING congressional district).

To me, the real test of the administration is going to happen when the recovery starts to really take hold - like when employment starts REALLY growing - and the normal business cycle will do this.

The question will be - how will the administration react to increasing revenue? I *suspect* they'll use it as an excuse to spend even more, as opposed to paying off the bills. But maybe - JUST MAYBE - like when Clinton had an uncooperative Congress - we can get to running a surplus again with some fiscal restraint. I'm not holding my breath, but one can hope, eh?
