If you are a part timer in TV, alot of people simply use their cell phone for local and long distance. However as a permanent resident you will start to feel guilty and realize that other permanent residents are not calling you (for social engagements or golf dates) because the call across the street is long distance from their house phone. Even if you have Majic Jack in your house with a 352 area code, calls to your 352 Majic jack number are long distance. Most permanent residents have Embarq, while some use Comcast, but then use their cell phone for long distance calling.
Fortunately I have not needed to use 911 and have no personal experience, but they say 911 from cell phones have much improved in locating the call quickly..... but then the rec centers tell people if an emergency arises and you need to call 911 you should call from the rec center itself using the land line to make certain the correct location is identified quickly adn confirmed electronically.
