I agree …. If those suction cup devices are used PROPERLY, no damage will occur. Apparently your friend knows how to ….

However, I have seen folks with those suction cups rake the hell out of the edge of the hole because they are not careful.

Any incident I see where that takes place , I bring it to that person whether I know them or not !

Best way I recommend is once the ball is in the hole, take the flag out leaving the ball in the hole …. THEN the ball can be lifted straight up from the center of the hole. That way, no part of the putter grip will come in contact with the edge of the hole .

I’m sure you know that. My intent is to let those who DON’T know how they can avoid causing damage….
