I think I still have a complete OPENER, however I would suggest replacing the whole unit with a new Chamberline. This is relatively easy to do and the new units have many advantages over the old ones.
On a side note, did you check ALL of the GFCI outlets or breakers, the garage door openers are usually fed by a GFCI protected circuit, and the GFCIs have been known to trip during a T&L storm. Depending on the vintage of your house you could find the GFCI outlets in the garage, in the bathroom, or as circuit breakers.
