I had a Yamaha Drive 2. A brand new one is now around $23,500. A new Evolution D5 Ranger with the larger battery and more features is around $13,000. For $10K, a better ride, more features, and a much better looking cart, you bet I'm getting the Evo D5!
They sell them this way because they sell nationally - The Villages is not their only market. No where else will you find the tunnel situation that exists in The Villages.
Regardless, there are several very easy solutions to the height issue for the Evo D5 Ranger (4 forward facing seats):
1) Lower the rear of the roof by 2-2 1/2". The rear of the roof is much taller than the front. Most dealers will do this for free. Have it done before getting your rain enclosure, otherwise you'll have to pay to shorten it.
2) Put smaller tires on it. Stock tires are 14" wheels with 225/50r14 tires. Installing 12" wheels with 215/40r12 tires lowers the cart by another 2.5". My dealer swapped them out for free.
If you do both #1 and #2, your cart will be about the same height as the Yamaha, but will still ride better, have more features, and is a much better looking design.
If you go with the D5 2+2 (instead of 4 forward), the cart is even taller, making it more difficult to get it where it needs to be.
