Because he doesn't actually understand the technology - he's just an installer. Open up any Wifi analyzer app on your phone and you will see two networks with your networks SSID on it - one for 5Ghz and one for 2.4Ghz. This is true for the older wifi 5&6 devices and the new wifi 7 devices. I had to help out two neighbors when they signed up with Quantum and got the new devices.

If you have a power outage, all 2.4Ghz devices will be fine. It's the initial connection - once connected the devices are good until you either replace them or the router.

Yes you can buy your own router, but it won't just drop in and work on the Quantum network. You need to ensure you get a router that supports VLAN tagging, and then set VLAN tagging to 201. I'm currently using Orbi routers because they are far faster than anything that Quantum provides. Also, any router you get for $30 is going to offer poor performance and features.

I was in this industry for nearly 40 years - I designed networks for large corporations - I know how this all works.
