It's a sign of either cutting costs at mfg plant, less maintenance or lower quality/cheaper packaging, AND/OR slower inventory turns due to higher prices for sugared water. . .ie, old inventory, damaged from transportation, etc.
consumer food industry has many tricks to cover up / sell old inventory, such as hiding old units within large packages of many good units. . seen it with old crusty bread in a bag of new soft bread, etc. . . poor local pricing with poor shelf rotation by stock peeps, can create old inventory, etc.
