Great idea but you may be unintentionally creating a mosquito breeding facility. Any standing water—even a thimble-full or a catch-tray under a planter—is a mosquito breeding location. To stop mosquitos, you can add & maintain a tiny amount of Mosquito Bits (Bt) which kills mosquito larvae & is not expensive. The bits need to be added again periodically to remain effective though. The active ingredient (Bt) is not harmful to birds, humans, etc. but it kills mosquito larvae.
