We use to live on the Big Island, so your question is specific to which Hawaiian Island you are visiting. May 2024 our flight was direct from MCO to LAX on American. A very, very fast hike between terminals, then from LAX to KOA arriving at 2:30 in the afternoon - its a 6-hour time difference from Florida.
If you want a couple days layover, well ok, but it's not a difficult time change to adjust to. Flying to Europe is more challenging for me.
