When a gas car burns, it burns at about 900F. When a lithium battery burns, it burns at about 3000F and carries its own oxygen supply so it can't be smothered. The insurance cost is high cuz companies want to total an EV even in a mild accident cuz they don't know the extent of damage to the battery pack since it is sealed tight.
