You’ve been here fourteen years and you hadn’t heard? Several thousand homes here got “free” roofs because of this scam and their greed, and this is why lots of people are being told that if there home is more than ten years old, their homeowner’s insurance will be cancelled unless they get new roofs at their own expense. Most of the rest have seen their rates zoom, partly because of this and partly because of the hurricane damage in the state. For four of the past five years, home insurance companies in Florida haven’t turned a profit, despite raising rates. My insurance is “only” $1,600 a year, but if I have roofing problems, the repair will be pro-rated, meaning it will pay almost nothing (12 year old roof). I also now have a $16,000 deductible for hurricane damage.

If you let one of these companies examine your roof, they will almost certainly claim they found damage and you need a new roof, even if your roof is fine. Be honest and just say no. And start saving money to pay for your own roof replacement instead of asking the rest of it to pay for it for you out of our insurance premiums.
