Even without the assignment of benefits (which according to some posts here, is no longer allowed in Florida?)...
Unscrupulous roofers will go up to the top of your roof, DAMAGE it, take a picture of the damage, and show it to you as proof that it needs work.
Of course since it's now damaged, the insurance adjuster will agree to pay for the new roof. The one you didn't need before the unscrupulous roofer went on top of your roof and damaged it.
The ones that are MOST LIKELY to scam you like this are the ones who show up at your door soliciting their services without you calling them first for an appointment.
That doesn't mean that ones who you call for an appointment won't ever scam you. It also doesn't mean that the ones who show up without an appointment are all going to scam you.
But in roofing, just as in life, there are people who take risks, and there are people who take calculated calculated risks, and there are suckers with targets on their back screaming "OVER HERE, PLEASE SCAM ME!"
You have to choose which one you will be.
