Cost me over $2000 when my dog grabbed a seed and swallowed it. We were able to get her to vomit, but she ended up having to spend 3-4 days up at Gainesville EMS hospital to make sure her liver enzymes were ok. Plant was removed ASAP.

The plant you are referring to is The Coontie (Zamia integrifolia) is a prehistoric shrub indigenous to Florida. As the only cycad native to North America, it dates back to prehistoric times. This slow-growing evergreen resembles a small palm and typically reaches about 3 to 4 feet in height and 3 to 5 feet in width. Coontie is highly adaptable, tolerating conditions from full sun to full shade, and is known for its resilience, making it a nearly indestructible plant suitable for various landscapes. The "cone" blooms at the shrub's base.
Fossils of this plant have been discovered in areas that were once Pangea.
