The basic Xfinity cable TV service uses the cable that is connected to your house and connects to an Xfinity cable box located near the TV. With that service, you don't need a separate internet service. However, Xfinity also offer a wireless streaming box that may need internet service to operate the box. You can stream channels with a Roku device connected to the TV, and you can use any internet service that is available. I don't know if that answers your question.
If you are having trouble with the Xfinity service, I would try replacing the cable box, and, if that doesn't work, you may need to have a technician inspect the cable that enters your house.
