I believe the Sunpass Pro transponders that include the EZPass capability *do* have a battery. That would include the UniPass also. I can't find definitive information and I don't have a strong desire to crack mine open to find out, but I know there was a battery in my old EZPass and there must be a reason the simple Sunpass capability can be put on a sticker but the Sunpass Pro unit is in a larger case.

It doesn't really matter too much since the battery seems to last a good long time (5+ years) anyway.
