I understand what you're saying but the reality is if you're connected to the Internet via your phone, computers, appliances, vehicles, doing online shopping, etc., your information is pretty much already out there. Every app you install on your phone is collecting data about you and most people have no clue as to what information is being collected or who it is being shared with. It's almost unavoidable unless you're gonna completely disconnect from everything.

Each person has to weigh the benefits/risks for themselves and act accordingly.
