When I kept my racing/coursing greyhounds, I cleaned their teeth with a brush and toothpaste as part of their daily routine in addition.
Depends on manner of dog, stick tooth brush close to some dogs mouths and get snapped at or bloody stub. don’t say owners fault, some dog owners rescue dogs and you get problems associated with unknowns.
