Ink is detected BY the firmware and cartridge - and that data only can transmit to HP via the internet. You have to have internet service, to use Instant Ink. If you have your internet service turned off for more than a few days you get an e-mail from HP reminding you that it can't establish a connection to your printer if you're offline.

And what difference does it make how often I use the remote feature? I use it. The statement was that no one needs anything more than 50mbps because TV streaming works fine at that speed. The statement is incorrect, because not everyone ONLY watches TV on a single device, with nothing else using the internet.

The more things you use, the slower your network will run. So if you have a higher speed network, the slowdown won't matter because it'll still be high enough to function seamlessly. It's always good to have "just one more" than you need. For me, that'd be 100mbps. But Xfinity bumped me up to 200 three years ago, no extra charge. They did it again just over a year ago so my current speedtest.net results are 355.35mbps downstream and 24.01 upstream. I totally don't need that much speed, but I'm still paying the same $50 as I was when I got the 50mbps 8 years ago back up north. They can make it as fast as they want, my modem won't handle much more anyway.
