Your original post did not mention that some of the cables are not terminated, it is relatively easy to strip about 1 inch of the outer covering, and then 1/2 inch of the inner insulator, this will leave you with the inner copper conductor, and the typically aluminum foil outer conductor. Then apply a short circuit (a small jumper) between these and go to the garage and repeat the above procedure and connect you meter to look for a short circuit, and mark the room that cable goes to. On a side note, i have used the inexpensive gold screw on connectors with suitable results, but everytime Comcast comes to the house they immediately state that is the problem, it has always been THEIR equipment, outside the house.
