I'm not disputing at all that the VHS campus isn't amazing, I just don't see a hotel surviving as a 365 day a year business based on fairly rare scenarios being presented here. I know events happen frequently there but it's certainly not most nights. I've worked in the hospitality business and any occupancy averaging under 35% EVERY night of the year is pretty much a bankruptcy waiting to happen.

You were Very lucky as a parent not to travel. Both boys played AAA hockey, out of state and Canada 2-3 times a month, not counting the twice a week practice and local games that could be 1-3 hours away. Our daughter travel fast pitch soft ball, played 16-18yo league @ 11 yo. Out state tournament at colleges were norm all summer. Plus golf tournaments.
Our hotel stays per month were 2-4 days. Every year one or both boys had the honor of making Nationals. Usually 3-7 days a year, which required airfare, hotels, and crap food because you camped out in a 40 degree building that was 10 miles away from your hotel or real food.
My guess is TV will host as many tournaments as possible bringing in teams from all over the FL plus multiple state draw to a great facility. Usually college campuses are used for big tournaments, because of facilities, restaurants and hotels. This HS has it all without paying big bucks to a college facility. Summer camps for basketball, football, baseball and lacrosse all in one tidy package.
All three of our kids were in awe of the forethought of the developer at how Middleton and Eastport were planned. Their first comment “This would have been a dream to have this type of commercial venue when we played sports”
