Default Maytag washer with agitation noise

First, I know that there small items, which have fallen out of pockets, which have made its way below the agitator column. The noise was really bad during a wash and there were several quarters caught between the bottom of the agitator and the drum. I have removed them with needle nose pliers easily.

However the noise continues, so to remove the agitator column requires a long socket extension, a socket with a rubber gasket to hold the nut in place while lowering into the bottom of the agitator column, and a lot of luck getting all lined up correctly.

Has anyone attempted this disassembly and reassembly successfully?
Or which service company has the best maytag repair techs on staff?

Am leaning towards the service company as I don't like my reassembly chances, unless there is an experienced DIYer willing to take a chance for me. .

Thanks in advance.
