I use Safari. I don't need another heavy browser. Adding bookmarks is easy! Go to the very top of the Safari screen (where the Apple symbol is in the upper left corner). Might have to make your browser a little smaller or move it around the desk top (mouse click and drag the top margin area). To the right of the Apple symbol, after File, Edit, View, and History is one marked Bookmarks. Click on that and a drop down menu appears. Click on Add Bookmark. There ya go, all done.

Not sure what popups you're talking about. Look for a little "X" in the upper right corner or the red circle/dot in the upper left corner.
Oh thanks, no wonder I didn't see it. Those little red dots are tiny.
