I have owned hardware stores all my adult life. Almost no iron pipe is produced in the US. It is my understanding that the galvanized (not rusty) pipe in the picture is not code compliant. Gas piping should be black iron, which will rust, not galvanized pipe as seen in the picture. That rust will not cause a problem for at least 50 years but if it bothers you go to Ace or spar and get a bottle of Rust Reformer, put that on and paint over it.
