Same here. Do not be stingy with the white lithium grease. Just make sure to hit all the parts that move and are metal-on-metal. Rollers, tracks, hinges, etc.
There are plenty of demos online.
I do not have a set schedule (I probably should) but I tend to mine when they start to make noise. If I had to guess it is probably every 12-15 months.
