EMRs is just an operational database customized for the healthcare industry. Yes, they are expensive and was a huge one time increase, and bigger maintenance fee, but since the government required it to force the industry to modernize and the government is now making the hospitals more efficient in many ways, you are saying that the government is the sole cause of increased healthcare costs at the expense of paper records and no standardization. .
No, I'm saying EMR was MANDATED by the govt, and is an enormous cost to providers both in terms of initial integration and ONGOING USE. The more time spent on EMR, the less spent on patient care and/or the higher the cost of said care. Ask your PCP if they think EMR uses more or less time than the previous method.
