Another source of failure for garbage disposal is very easy to fix. The push button to activate it may be connected to plastic tubing. If that becomes unconnected from the On-Off Safety Switch, the unit won't turn on. Just plug it back in to the matching "male" connector on the switch. (The power cord from the disposal connects to the safety switch which is then plugged into power socket.)
Maybe it gets disconnected if you have a faucet with a weight hose that allows you to spray anywhere in the sing, and the weighted hose pops out the flexible tubing.
