I lived in Michigan for many years before retiring and moving to the Villages 9 years ago. The Kroger near us had a policy that if the price charged at the register was different than what was displayed on the shelf, and you brought this to their attention, then they would refund you the difference + give you 10 times that difference in cash up to $5.00 per item ($1.00 min cash back per item). Many times they paid me to take groceries home.
(yes I realize this is a run on sentence, but being an Engineer we specialize in this plus being able to remember the shelf price of every item in our cart)
