They then set the thermostat to 80 for those 3 hours. I’m not sure how this saves energy by cooling my house 4 degrees for an hour and then changing it to only 1 degree above where I had set it for those 3 hours.

We opted in a few months ago when our smart thermostat was put in. Saved $ 50 and thought we would give it a try. So far they seem to have not done anything with temps.
